Civic Theatre of Allentown
527 N. 19th Street
Allentown, PA 18104
The Civic Theatre of Allentown is a historic treasure in the heart of Allentown’s West End Theatre District. Founded in 1927, it was then known as the “Civic Little Theatre,” Civic has been a great artistic contribution to the Lehigh Valley. I recently went to see their fall production of Spring Awakening and the production and ambiance were both wonderful. Ushers seat you with Broadway etiquette, and as you wait for the show to start you can look at the intricate architecture in the main theatre. When theatrical shows aren’t running, the theatre is transformed into a movie theatre featuring wide release and indie films. If you make it in for a matinee, you may have the theatre all to yourself! After seeing Spring Awakening, I felt more connected to Arts and Culture in the Lehigh Valley. Muhlenberg has so many artistic offerings throughout the year that it is sometimes easy to forget that there are other cultural venues nearby. Civic is conveniently located on 19th street directly across from Hava Java. Stop in and grab a cup of coffee or a sweet before catching a matinee or an evening play, and continue to support the Allentown Arts and Culture scene!
